Okay, so here we go - Dre, Alex and I were shooting theory after theory at each other at rapid-fire pace there for an hour or so. Maybe it's time to get a semi-coherent entry onto LJ?

Seriously, yo. I'm not sure about the coherency. Because Jensen Ackles was SO HOT IT BURNED. SO HOT.

But, anyway. The semi was ... fucking bullshit, man. At least, that's what I'm calling it until I see otherwise. An unbelievable, amazing, well-crafted episode, hitting on all the high points, continuing the Hero's Journey in a way consistent with the setup for the whole season, wonderful character work and satisfying emotions and ... then they're HIT BY A TRUCK. What The Fuck?

I'm almost tempted to think that they wrote the finale when they thought they were definitely going to be cancelled - they wrote it to wrap it all up enough to end the whole thing. And then, they figured out they were doing well enough to come back, so they needed a real cliffhanger. And thus, we get the FUCKING SEMI. Because I can't explain it otherwise. It's a copout, otherwise, a cheap grab for our attention that they didn't need. Because the rest of the episode was UNBELIEVABLE.

Let's ignore the random demon semi of doom for a while, then, shall we? Because there's SO MUCH to speculate about with this one. I probably shouldn't get into it all, because I do need to sleep at some point tonight, but a little bit of babble ...

1) Sam's telekenetic powers, or lack thereof. The room here so thought he'd be able to move that gun when Dean's life hung in the balance, but then, no. So what stopped him? What controls his powers? I'd been assuming that his ability to move things in "Nightmare" came about because he feared for Dean's life. If not, then what? Does the demon dampen his ability?

I don't have any answers to that question, but I do like Dre's theory about why the Demon-Dad was taunting him - trying to goad him into using his power. She speculates that the demon can only take "kids like (Sam)" when they're using their powers. He wanted Sam to move that gun, to open his mind and use his powers, because then he'd have him. It doesn't explain why Sam couldn't do it, but it explains why the demon wanted him to.

2) How does demon possession work? Can anyone, anywhere be possessed? Or, does it take something special? The big dude in the crowd and the fireman seem to suggest that it can be anyone ... but, if that's true, why did Daddy Demon just disappear after leaving Dad? A smart demon would have gone over to Dean, because Sam's sure as hell not going to shoot him. Of course, maybe this is where Dean's necklace comes into play? Because it has to, somewhere ...

3) Speaking of Dean's necklace, am I crazy, or does it bear a resemblance to the scorpion drawn in the middle of the big demon trap?

4) Back to demon possession. We started wondering if only demons possessing psychically talented people can do the big psychic sorts of tricks. None of the real-people demons in this episode - the couple, the fireman, or the big dude - did any real magical tricks, did they? Perhaps that's why they're looking for "kids like (Sam)" - psychically gifted kids with fucked up families (thanks to the demon, naturally), ripe for the picking for demon possession. And, following this line of reasoning, does John have some sort of power? What with the hammering home "Sam and Dad are ALIKE" all over the place, are they more alike than anyone yet knows?

I'm losing trains of thought, not that I ever really had them to begin with. Mostly, I just want to flail around and yell things like "DEEEEAAAAAAN" and "OMGWTFSEMITRUCK!" and beat my head with a pillow until the cats gather around and watch me like I've lost my mind. This show has BROKEN me, people. I am BROKEN.

I've been thinking of something since someone mentioned it in a fic, that when Mary died and her stomach was slashed open, I don't remember the drops of blood falling on baby Sam, but they did fall on John's hand. Fast forward to twenty-two years later, when the drops fall on Sam from Jess, and that's when his visions kick in. So that might be it, like a baptism.

Of course, the place where I lose it is with Max, who lost his mother when he was a baby but didn't get his powers until the same time Sam did.

Oh. I like that. I might have to rewatch the pilot to see, but yeah, that makes a lot of things possibly make sense ... yeah, we lose it with Max, but maybe there's a coming-of-age thing that goes along with it? That it takes the blood and a certain age to kick things into gear?

I don't know. I suppose this is the kind of thing the summer is for. Gah!

Kermit and I shall flail with you.

This show really has broken you, hasn't it? I haven't seen you like this since I've known you. LOL That's okay, because they've been breaking me all season.

I've been wondering about Dean's necklace all damn year, and no one seems to be able to tell me what it is, much less what it does. Though at the Paley festival this year, Kripke (evil, devil man!) did say that Dean's necklace does have significance. So if it's like some sort of protective pendant that would make sense. They've just never said anything about it. I suppose if it was the scorpion (its resemblance to one has occurred to me, but I've never gotten that close of a look at it), that would make sense, too.

The sudden car crash scenario is getting to be way overused. That is exactly how the Alias season ended last year, though Syd and Vaugn didn't get hit by a semi. I've been nervous about cars on roads ever since, but this one scared me as much as that one. lol

I think it was a cheap cliffhanger thrill, probably because they didn't know what else to do. If they get to safety, and a hospital, then that's it till next season. We have nothing to worry about because they're okay.

This? Not so much. We've got plenty to worry about now. Though, weird as it sounds, that does give me a little hope because maybe that means they have been picked up. That would be the good news. They can't leave it like this.

Ha. Yeah, I can't remember the last time I was like this. There was Stargate, but I don't think I ever flailed this much for that. Seriously, I can't remember being this worked up over a season finale since ... maybe since s2 Buffy? I don't know. :)

I'm not (really) worried about renewal. I laughed at the official reaction to the E!Online poll - basically a "I'm pretty sure we're getting renewed, but, um, thanks guys?"

Another speculation from last night ... that the boys will wake up in the car/in the hospital, and Dad won't be there.

Gah. Four months!

I was in a pretty big rut with TV till this show, so it's nice to have the excitement back. :)

Well, it's nice to show support, renewal or not.

Something will happen. I would rather Papa disappear than just outright die. Then they can get JDM back when they get him back.

Man, it's only been 24 hours and it's been the longest 24 hours ever. Four more months? Cruelty!

I saw someone speculating that maybe Sam could do the PK because he picked up on/could use PK-kid's ability when they were together, but only then. And whoever it was added that Sam also could sense the dead (ghosts? dead?) only when he was around Missouri. I'm so not good on canon here (missed episodes, VCR failures, I'm hoping for fast DVD release), so I'm not sure if these are canon correct observations, but it's another avenue to explore.

Huh. I didn't think of anything like that ... another thing I'll have to go back and look at. I can't remember the specifics of Sam sensing the dead, but if that's true, then huh. (Thank god for torrents, man. ;))

They're not dead...nor is the car. I refuse to believe that. There is a reason...sure, it look like a copout now, but maybe it will truly transform Dean and Sam? I'm going to be optimistic.

As for your theory about John, that's my theory. I honestly think Sam inherited his powers from Daddy (see, "Searching for the Truth"). As for the other theories, I'm with you there. And, no I didn't notice Dean's necklace looked like the scorpion in the trap. Dude...duuuuuude...that necklace is a major player; I just know it.

I may be hallucinating about the necklace and the scorpion. Someone needs to come up with a good torrent of the episode tonight so I can download it and see for certain. And also, maybe watch the Meg-torture scene over and over and over again. Heh.
