For anyone interested, the first episode of The Mighty Nein is available on YouTube for the weekend in advance of the first three episodes going live on Prime Video next week. The episode can be found here if you want to watch it.

To the shock of no one, I've watched the episode, and I have thoughts!

Dear Holly Poly Creator(s),

Just to note: this year's requests include Baldur's Gate, Black Ships by Jo Graham, Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Related Fandoms, Critical Role: Exandria, Doctor Who, Dragon Age, Gargoyles, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Mass Effect, and Star Wars.

My AO3 account is Settiai.

First of all, relax! I'm far from being picky, and I can pretty much guarantee that I'll love whatever you decide to write me. These are nothing but guidelines, for you to take to heart or ignore to your heart's content. Also, hey! You're creating a fanwork for me! About a poly relationship that I love! That's automatically a good reason for me to love you, no matter what. So, please, keep that in mind. Trust me, you can pretty much do no wrong. ♥

That said, I thought that I'd elaborate a bit on my requests and provide some general prompts in case, like me, you're the type of person who likes to have something to work with. If you're not that type of person, it's totally fine with me if you skip over anything/everything that I've included in this letter. Feel free to use and/or ignore as much of this as you want.

Note to self: definitely try to take a 2-3 hour nap after work on Thursdays if you're planning on staying up to watch Critical Role. It makes such a huge difference.

As with previous posts about the current campaign of Critical Role, this will be a combination of quotes, random thoughts, and some speculation. And it's obviously full of spoilers (albeit vague ones in places).

That was such a good episode. They're finally starting to properly feel like a team of some type, even if they're still a mess.

D&D, Video Games, and a Lack Thereof

I took a nap after work so that I'd be able to stay up for D&D tonight, only to wake up from said nap to find out that the game had been cancelled at the last minute. Oops? At least I'm well-rested even if the reason for it isn't happening anymore.

My plan was then going to be to play Mass Effect: Andromeda, but my game doesn't want to load and a bunch of files apparently need re-downloaded to fix it. So I figured that I'd try playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard... only to get the same error message. Thank you, EA, for continually having this issue. I appreciate it so much. Really.🖕🏻

(I have all of the BioWare games through Steam, but they still have to load through the EA app first because EA as a company sucks. And the EA app is a horrible piece of crap that stops working if you look at it wrong, which then leads to files getting corrupted and having to be redownloaded constantly. It's, unfortunately, a common issue.)

Since the universe clearly doesn't want me to play anything tonight, I said "fuck it" and am reading some fanfiction from my Marked for Later list on the AO3 instead. Maybe next time, huh?

I'm pretty stoked that I finished a series I started the same year I started it. Don't look at the fact it's only two books. It still counts, okay!? Read more... )

Oglaf

I've been reading the delightfully porny webcomic Oglaf pretty much since it first started being published back in 2008. (On that note, how on earth has it been almost eighteen years already?)

That said, the creators did an interview that was posted today, and it's very interesting to read if you're remotely a fan of the webcomic.

I was absolutely thrilled to see them mention that they're "trying very hard to get the Ivan story back on track." That's a storyline that hasn't been brought up at all in years and, while it sounds like it definitely has a ways to go before we see it in the comic itself, it's nice to know it's in the works.

Critical Role: Campaign 4, Episode 5

I started this past Thursday night's episode of Critical Role before crashing at the break because I desperately needed sleep after the week from hell at work. So let's pick up again now that it's properly the weekend. (Yes, the plan was that I'd finish the episode either Friday or yesterday. No, that didn't happen. Shush.)

As with previous posts about the current campaign of Critical Role, this will be a combination of quotes, random thoughts, and some speculation. And it's obviously full of spoilers (albeit vague ones in places).

Spoilers under the cut. )

One more episode down, many more to go in the future. Although I do need to try to watch the Fjord/Jester wedding special that dropped recently, because I haven't done that yet.

On Monday, I noticed that the small cat tree that allows the cats to look out the window at people/dogs/geese wandering around outside was looking a little rough. By which I mean that the tallest part of it was noticeably leaning when it had a cat on it.

As of today, with 670 works:

1. What rating do you write most fics under?

General Audiences - 355 (I actually would not have guessed this!)

2. What are your top 3 fandoms?

DCU (Comics) (36)
Batman (All media types) (32)
Star Trek: Enterprise (26)/Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger (26)

This is a little deceptive, because I don't tag with the generic Kamen Rider or Super Sentai fandom tags. If I did...whew. As an example, my #7 fandom is Boonboomger at 22, so if I'd tagged that and Gokaiger with Super Sentai, plus all the other sentai, it would easily beat DCU and maybe beat DCU and Batman combined.

3. What is your top character you write about?

To no shock whatsoever, #1 is Bruce Wayne with 33, followed by Tim Drake with 24. I wrote a *lot* of Batman/DCU fic back in the day, folks!

4. What are the 3 top pairings?

Hahahahaha, this is more representative of my recent fic habits!

Godai Yusuke/Ichijou Kaoru (12)
Tharn Thara Kirigun/Type Thiwat Phawattakun (10) tied with Kurogane Spanner/Minato (10)
Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan (8)

I have a Tharn/Type fic in the works. Oh, and for those in the know, the Boonboomger OT6 is in 6th place with 7 fics, so I strongly suspect that will move up the list, but Spanner/Minato will likely stay strong.

5. What are the top 3 additional tags?

Humor (151) Not a shock at all
Drama (85) This one...I wonder if I used it on older fics, because I can't recall using it in years!
Friendship (65) No shock whatsoever

If we remove Drama, which is a weird choice, the #4 is Crossover with 44. I used to write a buttload of those :D

As we end the year, I'm resisting the capitalistic urge to have my favorites list out in December for Content Reasons. Those of us dedicated to the ways of book blogging know that personal lists are best out in January because there's always a chance a book picked up in the dead space between holidays and the new year hits different. I will link to best of lists in Intergalactic Mixtape (because I am weak, and I love them), but that's it. I will not create my own!

To distract myself, while I was redoing my bookshelves, I made a list of books where I thought, "Wow, I would love to be able to read that again for the first time."

Since my massive reading slump in 2020, I've become a lot kinder to myself when it comes to re-reading. It's nice to spend time with familiar characters and worlds. I'm trying really hard to be gentle with my brain, which is overtaxed by the Horrors. An election year seems like the perfect time for a reread spree. It's very likely all of these books, and their companion/sequel novels, will be on my December TBR/2026 reading list.
