violacea: (dean says wtf?)

Okay, so here we go - Dre, Alex and I were shooting theory after theory at each other at rapid-fire pace there for an hour or so. Maybe it's time to get a semi-coherent entry onto LJ?

Seriously, yo. I'm not sure about the coherency. Because Jensen Ackles was SO HOT IT BURNED. SO HOT.

But, anyway. The semi was ... fucking bullshit, man. At least, that's what I'm calling it until I see otherwise. An unbelievable, amazing, well-crafted episode, hitting on all the high points, continuing the Hero's Journey in a way consistent with the setup for the whole season, wonderful character work and satisfying emotions and ... then they're HIT BY A TRUCK. What The Fuck?

I'm almost tempted to think that they wrote the finale when they thought they were definitely going to be cancelled - they wrote it to wrap it all up enough to end the whole thing. And then, they figured out they were doing well enough to come back, so they needed a real cliffhanger. And thus, we get the FUCKING SEMI. Because I can't explain it otherwise. It's a copout, otherwise, a cheap grab for our attention that they didn't need. Because the rest of the episode was UNBELIEVABLE.

Let's ignore the random demon semi of doom for a while, then, shall we? Because there's SO MUCH to speculate about with this one. I probably shouldn't get into it all, because I do need to sleep at some point tonight, but a little bit of babble ...

1) Sam's telekenetic powers, or lack thereof. The room here so thought he'd be able to move that gun when Dean's life hung in the balance, but then, no. So what stopped him? What controls his powers? I'd been assuming that his ability to move things in "Nightmare" came about because he feared for Dean's life. If not, then what? Does the demon dampen his ability?

I don't have any answers to that question, but I do like Dre's theory about why the Demon-Dad was taunting him - trying to goad him into using his power. She speculates that the demon can only take "kids like (Sam)" when they're using their powers. He wanted Sam to move that gun, to open his mind and use his powers, because then he'd have him. It doesn't explain why Sam couldn't do it, but it explains why the demon wanted him to.

2) How does demon possession work? Can anyone, anywhere be possessed? Or, does it take something special? The big dude in the crowd and the fireman seem to suggest that it can be anyone ... but, if that's true, why did Daddy Demon just disappear after leaving Dad? A smart demon would have gone over to Dean, because Sam's sure as hell not going to shoot him. Of course, maybe this is where Dean's necklace comes into play? Because it has to, somewhere ...

3) Speaking of Dean's necklace, am I crazy, or does it bear a resemblance to the scorpion drawn in the middle of the big demon trap?

4) Back to demon possession. We started wondering if only demons possessing psychically talented people can do the big psychic sorts of tricks. None of the real-people demons in this episode - the couple, the fireman, or the big dude - did any real magical tricks, did they? Perhaps that's why they're looking for "kids like (Sam)" - psychically gifted kids with fucked up families (thanks to the demon, naturally), ripe for the picking for demon possession. And, following this line of reasoning, does John have some sort of power? What with the hammering home "Sam and Dad are ALIKE" all over the place, are they more alike than anyone yet knows?

I'm losing trains of thought, not that I ever really had them to begin with. Mostly, I just want to flail around and yell things like "DEEEEAAAAAAN" and "OMGWTFSEMITRUCK!" and beat my head with a pillow until the cats gather around and watch me like I've lost my mind. This show has BROKEN me, people. I am BROKEN.
