give blood
Aug. 3rd, 2007 07:08 amAs a follow up to yesterday's post about donating blood ...
queenveronica (who works in a blood bank) says that there's a critical shortage of type O blood everywhere in the country right now. So, wherever you live, if you're type O and can give blood, please contact your local Red Cross or other donor center and make an appointment. Statistics show that approximately 40% of people in the US have either O+ or O- blood. So, you can see where more donors would be needed - statistically, it's likely that a good portion of patients in need of transfusions will be type O. (A+ is the next highest grouping, and another that tends to need quite a few donors!)
So, please, donate blood - and platelets, if you're able! It's a relatively easy and painless way to help save lives.
