That has happened to me SO MANY TIMES with the comments. I always intend to answer them all, then I just... forget. Usually I go back and do the usual "Thank you!" replies without mentioning my epic tardiness, even though I know it's weird to get a reply from an author long after you've forgotten you even commented on the story.
It's awkward, isn't it? I'm never sure what the right thing to do is! I have a whole bunch of feedback I need to answer, which is why I asked. I haven't posted a story since last December. Yay?
I remember the days when I always remembered to reply to feedback promptly. That was back in the dark ages. Otherwise known as "Pre-Yael".
If When I find old feedback, I reply with something like "In cleaning out my inbox, I find I never replied to your kind words. So thank you, very belatedly!"
I try to answer my feedback promptly, but I tend to lose track of time re: work so I end up going back ages later and doing it. Sometimes I'll apologize, sometimes I don't. :)
and, er, Trek. I dunno. *muses* check the space_married comm for some goodies. I've been writing more than I've been reading so... (hey! You can always read my girl!Jim fic going live tomorrow! *evils*)
I have, in fact, been reading a couple of space_married fics as they're being written! But I haven't been over there to check out everything I'm not beta-reading. :D
*glee* awesome. I have one but I haven't started it yet. I've been busy with SGA and, the aforementioned AU. It's MAJOR AU for both the movie and the TOS series. It's reboot, but with elements of the books and TOS all mixed in for fun. I am in major love with it *G*
Of course, I recently received approximately 200 reviews on old HP fandom fics b/c the archive that hosts them is now running a House Cup competition where they aware points for every review left, so I am FAR behind on this. Pot, meet kettle.
Ha! Yeah. My one and only Torchwood story was recced on a big community recently, so suddenly I have a bunch of comments on a 2-year-old story that I don't know what to do with!
I almost never go back to reply to comments when I've left them for a long time. I feel like a complete heel about it, though. :/ I am strongly of the opinion that authors should thank people for commenting. Otherwise, will they continue to comment? I know I notice when I don't get a reply -- it's like the author doesn't care that I said something. Even if it's just a "thank you!" It's good manners and good communication, both of which are necessary in fandom (as in everything)!
I probably have some comments on my own story that I haven't responded to... I'd probably say respond to the ones that you think need a response (ie: if they made a comment other than "This was awesome!" :) ) but don't worry about the rest. :)
And you know Bandom's not my thing, which is why I answered the other question with "I'd politely ignore you." ;)
