... sorry. :)

Huh. I'm going to have to think about how much I liked that one. I think I did. Mostly, it hit me right where it hurt - that's my big paranoid fear, you know, hearing what other people really think of me. I spent most of the episode clutching at my chest in sympathy with Tosh. Poor girl.

Sort of a charcter shortcut for Tosh, there, but in a short British season, the shortcut was probably necessary. Geeky, lonely, wrapped up in her work. Starving for attention. It's no wonder she latched onto Owen - I can see where it would be easy for someone who isn't terribly socially apt to think of his obnoxious banter as genuine affection. Which, it probably is, in Owen's own warped way, just not the way most other functional humans see it. ;) Jack holds himself just apart enough that latching onto him is next to impossible. Ianto kept his secrets, and thus himself, locked away from the rest of them. Suzie's gone (well, at least until next week, apparently), so we don't know what kind of relationship she and Tosh had. That leaves Owen as someone Tosh has known for a while, trusted, spends a lot of time with. He's it, by default.

Once again, we're left with the reminders that Owen's an ass. Gwen didn't come off any better, until the end, when she acknowledged her problems to Tosh. I'm not quite sure if I liked Gwen's characterization in this one; on one hand, the combination of guilt and new lust would make a person act stupidly, god knows, but the relative lack of guilt wasn't what I expected from her. Even there at the end, she was so matter-of-fact ... if she's the kind of person who can carry on an affair with that little reflection, she's not quite the character I had her pegged as. Which, hmm.

Ianto's thoughts were a bit too heavy-handed. Actually, I just started to laugh, remembering someone on the community who referred to his "emo of continuity". Snort.

Jack ... Jack is so separate from the rest of them, isn't he? Not really connected at all. The conversation between him and Tosh at the end just underscored that, really. He understood what she was saying, but couldn't really tell her that, now, could he? So, he's left with jokes and platitudes. And poor Tosh now has to go back home alone, again, without anyone she can really talk to. They're all in that boat, though, aren't they? Gwen and Owen have the illusion, for now, but how long until that crumbles?

... maybe now Tosh and Ianto can bond over the fact that Jack has killed their girlfriends. Heh.

So, anyway. Great character work for Tosh, but I'm left feeling a little bit sour in regards to the rest of the characters - or, Owen, Gwen, and Jack, anyway. Ianto and his emo of continuity really didn't feature. This team isn't coming together - it's tearing apart, bit by bit. I hope we get something that brings them together, for real, sometime soon, because this is beginning to feel very lonely for all involved.

The IM conversations from the website are really the most interesting thing about the whole show. :)

This conversation between Tosh and Ianto is completely adorable. Meanwhile, this conversation between Gwen and Owen gives me even more pause about Gwen's character stuff. Owen, I expect that from, but Gwen's responses sorta smack of teenage-girl. Both make me feel even more sorry for Tosh and Ianto ... between the stories I recced earlier, and this stuff, maybe I'm turning into a shipper there? Heh.
