The first, overriding reaction?

WELL then.

I can't promise anything behind the cut is more coherent than that.

... okay, beyond that? Huh. Hmmm mmm mmm. There was a lot of stuff here, a lot of stuff that made me think, for possibly the first time for sure, that the writers definitely know where they're going with this arc, and that they're going to satisfy a lot of the character stuff I was worried about.

Compassion. The one thing the Torchwood staff, aside from Gwen and Suzie, really lack. Compassion's the key to the mystery, to what's tearing them all apart.

Suzie had a plan. Huh. She was smarter than the rest of them, then, smarter and looked farther out. And was really more sociopathic than any of them, to turn an innocent man into a mind-controlled killing machine. Making an innocent do something via mind-control ... which could bring us back to Owen, who Suzie apparently also fucked? Interesting connections, don't know where this is heading, if anywhere, but hmmm ...

Random shallow comment: how, precisely, am I finding Owen more and more attractive, the farther we get into this? During that first scene, I found myself thinking "mmmm, he looks ... WAIT! WHAT AM I SAYING?" But, there it was, anyway. I'm a bit disturbed. Heh.

And, speaking of shallow and stuff ... okay, y'all. I'd read the bits and pieces of interviews and spoilers that said that there would be a relationship between two of the male characters whose nature would be "ambiguous" ... THAT, that was not ambiguous. Not in the least. Not unless you're going to tell me they're training for the Olympics.

... and it's about the point I start imagining the various uses for a stopwatch that my brain stops working and the episode analysis falls apart. Yeah.

Oh, but then we have Ianto's other bit of brilliance. Gloves do, in fact, come in pairs, don't they? Hmmmmm.

I really really should go to bed now. Really. Really really.

Oh, except ... While that scene is going to make 95% of the Torchwood fandom explode with sheer glee, and while I sorta loved it on one level, on another, it's kinda giving me a large WTF moment ... because, dude, it's only been 3 months since the beginning of the season, apparently, which means it's something less since "Cyberwoman". The idea of Jack and Ianto being at a comfortable point like that ... huh. I don't know, man. I was halfway-semi-plotting a fic in which Ianto started fucking Jack before Lisa died, mostly as a distraction so that Jack wouldn't think about why he was always there ... I'd buy something going on between the two of them if it was kinda messed up, in some of the same ways Gwen/Owen is messed up. And maybe it is, but still ... while that scene read like several fics I've read made canon, I'm not entirely sure how it sat with me, character-wise. I'll have to think about it.

... from a purely character-driven standpoint, naturally. ::cough::
